SUMMARY:Transitioning to a Residential Memory Program
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL EVENT\nJoin this panel of experts from Ingleside Engaged Living for this program that explores the window of time from once someone makes the decision to move their loved one into a memory program and how the three-legged stool of orientation, training, and therapeutic programs should be used to appropriately support the new resident and their primary caregiver in the transition to a residential memory program. This presentation will focus on what an appropriate orientation and transition plan looks like, how to evaluate if the memory care community has robust programming, and what to look for in terms of family and caregiver support and education.\n\n\n\n\n\nMARIANNA BLAGBURN\n\nMarianna Blagburn, MA, CADDCT, CRCM, has more than 15 years of experience in the field of aging. She is an advocate for older adults who wish to live an engaged and active life in community. Prior to arriving at Ingleside, Marianna was the Associate Director of Innovative Programming and Marketing at a Memory Care community in DC. Prior to that, Marianna was the Executive Director of the Northwest Neighbors Village, an award-winning local non-profit volunteer development organization, serving older adults who live in the communities of Chevy Chase, DC; Tenleytown, American University Park, and North Cleveland Park. A social scientist and non-profit leader, Marianna is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a graduate of American University’s Master’s Program in Anthropology, with a focus on culture change.\n\n\n\n\nMAUREEN CHARLTON\n\nMaureen Charlton, BSW, CVW, CADDCT, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Baylor University. She has worked with people with dementia and their families for about 30 years in various capacities, including care settings, professional training, and working for the Alzheimer’s Association. Most recently, Maureen opened a new memory support neighborhood at an Assisted Living community in Virginia and served that community for over 3 and a half years. As a Certified Validation Group Practitioner and a Certified Dementia Practitioner/Trainer, she loves training and coaching the team to provide quality care to those with dementia.\n\n\n\n\nAMY HEWES\n\nAmy Hewes, MT-BC, CADDCT, brings over 10 years of experience working in senior living and home care. This ignited the spark to pursue a career working with older adults, especially those affected by Alzheimer’s disease/dementia. Amy has two bachelor’s degrees in music and sociology from George Mason University and she graduated from Shenandoah University’s certification program in music therapy. Amy has worked at several communities in life enrichment and music therapy roles. For the past six years, she has been the coordinator of the memory health day program at Greenspring Village in Springfield, working directly with participants and their families along with managing the administrative side of the program.\n\n\n\n\n
