At Ingleside, service extends far beyond the walls of each community and is rooted in a belief that small acts of kindness can make a big difference for those in need. That spirit of service was represented proudly as members of the Ingleside team partnered with Comfort Cases, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children entering the foster care system.
Founded on the principle that every child deserves dignity and a sense of belonging, Comfort Cases works to replace the trash bags that are too often used to carry the belongings of children entering foster care, and instead provides them with backpacks and duffel bags filled with comforting essentials.
Each bag includes items such as pajamas, books, underwear, hygiene products, and a variety of other small essentials that can make a difficult transition feel a little less overwhelming.
Supporting Foster Care Youth with Compassion-Driven Service and Care
Reflecting on the day of service, one participant from the Ingleside volunteer team noted the profound reality that many youth entering the foster care system are forced to leave their homes “with only the shirts on their backs.” He expressed how rewarding it was to offer a sense of hope, remarking that the simple act of stocking bags with essential hygiene items felt truly significant.
The volunteer experience offered employees an opportunity to give back together while supporting a mission centered on compassion and care, two values that closely align with Ingleside’s approach to community engagement and resident-centered service.
“For the past few years, Ingleside has partnered with Comfort Cases because their mission reflects our A.R.I.S.E. values of Accountability, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship, and Excellence,” said Jennifer Sargent, Vice President of Human Resources at Ingleside. “One example of this is how Comfort Cases provides dignity to children entering foster care by replacing trash bags with thoughtfully prepared backpacks that honor each child’s worth.”
Sargent added that while Ingleside’s daily work focuses on caring for older adults, the organization believes in creating impact that transcends generations.
“Engaging with our local communities, sharing passions, and supporting one another is what engaged living means to us,” she said. “Volunteering with Comfort Cases allows us to extend that compassion beyond our walls and ensure no child enters foster care feeling unseen or alone.”
Building Workplace Culture Through Volunteerism in Senior Living
As Ingleside continues to invest in opportunities that strengthen both community and connection, partnerships like Comfort Cases serve as a powerful reminder that even the smallest gestures can leave a lasting impact.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to purposeful service, one where compassion and dignity remain at the center of everything Ingleside does. By working alongside organizations like Comfort Cases, Ingleside not only supports those in need, but also highlights the vital role such organizations play in communities at large.
