Rooted in Meaning: The Spiritual Life Endowment
In 2025, Ingleside at King Farm (IKF) took an important step to ensure its rich spiritual life continues to flourish for generations to come with the launch of the Spiritual Life Endowment. Supported by resident philanthropy, the endowment provides long-term stability for worship services, chaplaincy, interfaith dialogue, and programs that invite reflection, justice, and action. Dr. Roslyn Sellman, a leader in IKF’s spiritual life programming, has witnessed firsthand how this commitment shapes daily life in the community.
How Does Spiritual Programming Enhance the Resident Experience at IKF?
“Spiritual programming nurtures purpose, hope, and belonging throughout the aging journey. Through worship, discussion groups, rituals, and one-to-one support, residents reflect on life’s transitions, process grief and joy, and build deeper relationships with one another.”
“One example is Justice as a Spiritual Practice, a resident discussion series exploring how spiritual values shape the way we care for one another and engage with the world around us. I began the program to invite residents into thoughtful conversations about justice. Those conversations became action. Justice became not only something we discussed, but something we practiced together as both a social and spiritual commitment.”
Why Is The Spiritual Life Endowment Important?
“Today’s residents come from diverse faith traditions and life experiences, and spiritual care must be equally welcoming and responsive. The Spiritual Life Endowment ensures these programs remain rooted for generations to come by supporting worship services, meditation, grief support, interfaith programming, educational opportunities, guest speakers, musicians, and resident-led initiatives.”
“The Endowment also allows us to innovate. One example is our new Clinical Pastoral Education program. As an accredited teaching site, IKF is preparing future spiritual care leaders while strengthening our workforce and expanding opportunities for compassionate care.”
What Does Resident Support of Spiritual Life Say About the IKF Community?
“Resident support reflects a community that values the whole person. It shows people care deeply not only about quality of life, but about compassion, relationships, and how we accompany one another through aging. I see this when a resident notices a neighbor has stopped attending a spiritual life program and asks to check in together. They visit, listen, and simply sit with that person during a difficult season. Moments like these happen often—quiet, unplanned acts of care.”
As the founding donor of the Spiritual Life Endowment, IKF resident Carol Jobusch envisioned lasting support for the spiritual life of the community. Reflecting on her commitment, she shares:
