In senior living, strong leadership is measured not only by operational excellence, but by the ability to create meaningful impact for residents, staff, and the broader aging services industry. At Ingleside, we are proud to celebrate one such leader whose commitment to person-centered care, inclusion, and innovation continues to shape the culture of our communities.
Cody Christian, Director of Accreditation and Quality Improvement at Ingleside, was recently honored with the inaugural LeadingAge Maryland Impact Award — a recognition that celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the mission and advancement of LeadingAge Maryland and the aging services field overall.
Cody’s Journey: From Fitness Instructor to Senior Living Leader
Cody’s journey with Ingleside began at Ingleside at King Farm as a fitness instructor. Over time, his passion for resident wellbeing, operational excellence, and inclusive leadership propelled him into progressively larger leadership roles within the organization.
Today, as Regional Director of Accreditation and Quality Improvement, Cody helps guide quality standards, operational consistency, and accreditation initiatives across Ingleside’s communities in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. His leadership has played a key role in strengthening organizational systems while maintaining a deep commitment to person-centered care.
“I have always operated under the belief that people — residents and team members alike — should feel valued, respected, and supported regardless of their background, identity, religion, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic status. Creating environments grounded in dignity, belonging, and inclusion has always been central to how I lead.” Cody shared. “Integrating purposeful standardization into healthcare practices for residents and inclusive workplace practices for staff are essential to how we operate as a community.”
Advancing Inclusion and Excellence Across Senior Living
Cody has maintained a long-standing relationship with LeadingAge Maryland dating back to his early career as a Fitness Manager, where he was actively involved in the Resident Services and Activities Workgroup. In 2023, shortly after LeadingAge Maryland launched its DEIB initiative, Cody was approached to chair the Inclusion & Belonging Peer Network for Maryland, an initiative focused on increasing engagement, collaboration, and visibility around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts across member organizations. In 2026, the network expanded into a joint Maryland and Washington, DC regional collaborative, which he now continues to chair, supporting cross-organizational leadership dialogue, education, and inclusive best practice development throughout the aging services sector. In this leadership role, Cody helped champion the launch of the organization’s first Inclusive Excellence Accreditation (IEA) pilot program, an evidence-based framework designed to help aging services organizations embed inclusion and belonging into daily operations, policies, and culture.
Among the 10 participating organizations, all three Ingleside communities — Ingleside at Rock Creek, Westminster at Lake Ridge, and Ingleside at King Farm — participated in the inaugural pilot. Under Cody’s leadership and dedication to implementing meaningful policies and operational practices, all three communities earned the highest level of accreditation recognition, the Excellence tier.
Through this work, Cody became the recipient of this year’s LeadingAge Maryland Impact Award, recognizing his leadership in helping move the senior living industry toward more inclusive, equitable, and people-centered practices.
