Our Clinical Pastoral Education/Training (CPE/T) program delivers a rigorous, interfaith, graduate-level curriculum in health ministry. Rooted in experiential learning, it integrates academic study with the practical engagement of chaplaincy. This immersive approach fosters both personal and professional growth, particularly for students pursuing theology, psychology, or related disciplines.

Ingleside presents a distinctive educational model that seamlessly blends in-person and virtual learning modalities, thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of today’s engaged and time-conscious students. Ingleside is the not-for-profit parent organization of three premier Life Plan Communities in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Each community offers a unique setting for Clinical Pastoral Education students to engage in meaningful spiritual care, while benefiting from a diverse and vibrant resident population.

INGLESIDE AT ROCK CREEK
Washington, DC

Located beside Rock Creek Park, this community blends natural beauty with urban accessibility, offering a peaceful and culturally rich environment.

WESTMINSTER AT LAKE RIDGE
Lake Ridge, VA

Surrounded by wooded trails and ponds, Westminster at Lake Ridge provides a serene, nature-filled setting ideal for reflection and spiritual connection.       

INGLESIDE AT KING FARM
Rockville, MD

A walkable, intergenerational community known for its inclusive culture and emphasis on wellness, engagement, and lifelong learning.

Program Requirements

  • Intensive CPE internships run in 12- to 14-week units that are offered three times a year
  • The units begin in January, June, September
  • Full-Year CPE residency is a three-unit program from September-August
  • The program fee is $450, with an additional non-refundable $50 processing fee for materials
  • Required books are not included in the cost
  • Scholarships are available

Clinical Pastoral Education students will have the opportunity to:

  • Visit residents and their families
  • Develop spiritual assessment skills
  • A willingness to explore a deep understanding of one's strengths
  • Strengthening the capacity for thoughtful reflection on personal experiences and professional practice
  • Meet with healthcare workers in many disciplines
  • Connect residents to their spiritual communities
  • Assist with sacred rituals such as memorial services
  • Participating in weeks of spiritual emphasis
  • Participating in Blessing of the Hands for nurses
  • Support caregivers, team members, and families

Background and Approach to Mentoring CPE Students

The Clinical Pastoral Approach is centered on people and fosters healthy group dynamics, didactics, case studies using proven methodologies, clinical theories, theological insights, and personal reflections. Rev. Dr. Roslyn Sellman's leadership in Clinical Pastoral Education is grounded in the concept of reciprocal hospitality. This form of hospitality should be understood as a mutual exchange, not merely as a guest-host relationship, but as a dynamic where learners invite and anticipate discovering new ways to engage in care-partner relationships.

Led By Experienced Professionals

Dr. Roslyn Sellman, Director of Spiritual Life

Dr. Roslyn Sellman serves as the Training Supervisor at Ingleside Continuum Care Communities and is affiliated with the College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy (CPSP). She is a Board-Certified Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor through CPSP, and an ordained minister with ecclesiastical endorsement from the African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she has been a dedicated member for over 30 years.

Dr. Sellman holds a Doctor of Ministry from Lancaster Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary, a Graduate Certificate in Life Coaching, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies from Grand Canyon University in Arizona.

Her professional experience includes Hospice, and over 20 years of supervisory leadership in congregational care, behavioral health, and hospital-based spiritual care. Currently, she serves as Director of Spiritual Life and Clinical Training Supervisor at Ingleside at King Farm, where she oversees the accreditation of Ingleside communities as Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Learning Institutions.
