Featuring three clinicians from cognitive care medical practice Sunday Health, this session will discuss scientific research and technological advancements that have uncovered effective prevention strategies, advanced diagnostic tools, and promising pharmacological treatments for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease, and related dementias. But how do these breakthroughs help reduce your risk of developing MCI or dementia, and how do you access the tools and treatments available? This conversation will explore these questions and the recent developments in cognitive care, including:

  • New blood tests designed specifically to aid in dementia diagnosis
  • Recently FDA-approved medications for treating mild cognitive impairment or early-stage dementia
  • Lifestyle factors that influence brain health and cognitive function

Dr. Clay Ackerly

DR. CLAY ACKERLY

Dr. Clay Ackerly graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College, and holds a Master’s degree in Health Policy from the London School of Economics. He earned his medical degree from Duke University, and completed his Internal Medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Dr. Ackerly has received particular recognition for his efforts to improve the care of older adults. A board-certified internist and primary care physician, Dr. Ackerly has published articles in numerous medical journals and has served as Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Sara Doyle

DR. SARA DOYLE

Dr. Sara Doyle is a board-certified neurologist and specializes in neurology at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She has additional training in preventive medicine and epidemiology. Dr. Doyle received her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and she earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to her patient-facing work, Dr. Doyle researches the exposures over the life course that impact our brain health and function. Her goal is to translate this to environmental, health, and social policy to promote brain health.

Dr. Doug Elwood

DR. DOUG ELWOOD

Dr. Doug Elwood is a board-certified physician with nearly 20 years experience in health and wellness. Dr. Elwood has led innovation efforts for a number of companies and has dedicated his career to improving education, communication, and outcomes for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers. As a thought-leader in the space, he has consulted to companies throughout the industry, presented at conferences worldwide, and has multiple publications including a featured chapter in the esteemed annual HIMSS publication on mobile health. He is on part-time faculty at NYU Langone Health and led one of the country’s first and largest clinical studies on the use of technology in clinical care and how social media, digital, mobile, and connected health influence communications, patient behavior, and physician workflow. He has held numerous executive positions including both CEO and Chief Medical Officer and run national clinical programs with companies like Quest, LabCorp, and Walgreens.
